Exercise has become a vital part of many women´s lives. In the absence of any obstetric
or medical complications, most women can maintain a regular exercise regimen
during pregnancy. The level of exercise recommended for maintaining the fitness level
throughout pregnancy will depend, in part, on the level of pre-pregnancy fitness.
Key messages
􀃎 Available data are insufficient to presume risks or benefits for the mother or
infant of regular aerobic exercise during pregnancy.
􀃎 Further larger well-conducted trials are needed to assess the potential health
benefits and safety of recommending aerobic exercise in healthy pregnant
women.
