NOVEMBER 25: INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN

At the IECS we have, since November 2020, a Commission for Equal Rights, Diversity and Gender Equity (CIDDEG), which invites us to make visible, reflect and work to eliminate all forms of violence against women.

Within the framework of the World Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women, this commission invites us to reflect on a figure: only 22% of the management positions of science and technology organizations in Argentina are occupied by women, according to the Diagnosis on the situation of women in Science and Technology of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation carried out this year. Indeed, vertical segregation is a form of violence that consists of limiting women's access and job growth.

At IECS we believe in science as a collaborative and participatory space, which is why we continue working to transform the field of science and research into an inclusive place free of violence. In that sense, In the last 5 years, the representation of women on our board grew by 37,5%.

CIDDEG is made up of a group of collaborators of the institution who promoted proposals to develop a process to promote equal opportunities. Within this action plan, different documents were prepared, such as a “Coexistence Manual”, a “Guide to Good Practices” and a “Reminder of Non-Tolerated Practices”. These are the instruments that define the position of the institution and the elements of intervention to address and resolve situations that produce inequalities and discrimination.
