SUGARY-SWEETENED BEVERAGES IN EL SALVADOR

Sugar-sweetened beverages such as soft drinks, juices (liquids and powders), energizers and flavored waters cause tooth decay, obesity and overweight. In the long term, its consumption is associated with diabetes, various types of cancer, cardiovascular disease and premature death.
The intake of sugar-sweetened beverages in Latin America is very high, so various countries are considering or have begun to implement measures to reduce it.
On this website you will find information based on scientific evidence generated from an IECS research project that sought to assess in four Latin American countries which is the disease burden attributable to consumption and what is the effectiveness of four health interventions: front of package nutrition labeling; fiscal policies; educational measures and modification of the school environment and the prohibition of advertising, promotion and sponsorship.
