Scientific evidence, transparency and commitment, the pillars of our institution

At the Institute for Clinical and Health Effectiveness (IECS), we have been working for more than 20 years with a clear purpose: to generate knowledge based on rigorous and verifiable scientific evidence, to improve the quality, efficiency and sustainability of health systems in Argentina, Latin America and the world.

We are an independent, non-profit academic organization affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), and one of the leading institutions dedicated to public health in the region.

We are dedicated to research, training of professionals and technical cooperation in health with the objective of:

  • Develop high-impact clinical and health research.
  • Bridging the gap between scientific evidence and health decision-making.
  • Training professionals in health policy research and evaluation methods.
  • Provide technical support to health decision-makers for the formulation of policies based on effectiveness, equity and quality.

At IECS, the transparency is a central principle. All our research follows international standards of scientific rigor, ensuring that data, methods and results are clear, verifiable and accessible.

Our financing model is diversified and comes from prestigious national and international sources, including multilateral organizations, governments, universities, public research agencies, and public and private health sector organizations. This diversity allows us to maintain the independence from commercial or political interests, ensuring that our work responds exclusively to the improvement of public health.

All our studies and projects are evaluated by scientific and ethical committees, and its results are published in peer-reviewed scientific journals, promoting transparency and reliability of information.

Impact and scientific production

Our research teams have published more than 1.300 scientific articles in journals indexed in PUBMED, many of them in high-impact journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, BMJ, JAMA, among others, contributing to the development of knowledge in key areas such as:

  • Health economics and health technology assessment.
  • Equity, accessibility, quality and efficiency of the health system.
  • Quality, patient safety and clinical management.
  • Chronic diseases and prevention.
  • Maternal and child health.
  • Cancer and palliative care.

We provide training in Clinical research, health management and health policy evaluation, with academic programs of excellence. Our educational offer includes the Master's Degree in Clinical Effectiveness from the Faculty of Medicine of the UBA, as well as postgraduate courses and seminars in various specialties. More than 16.000 professionals have chosen our training programs.
