Dr. Fernando Rubinstein
Fernando Rubinstein is a board certified Family Physician and Associate Professor of Public Health at the University of Buenos Aires (UBA). He is the Academic director of the Institute for Clinical Effectiveness and Health Policy in Buenos Aires, Argentina (IECS) and of the Master’s Program in Clinical Effectiveness of the University of Buenos Aires, a program with main orientations in clinical and health services research, with a particular emphasis in quantitative methods. As the MSc. Deputy Director, he interacts with all students in the development of their research thesis projects and have served as a thesis advisor and primary mentor for many trainees. Main research fields: barriers of access to health care for minority groups, health services research, applied clinical epidemiology and research methods, prevention in primary care and the development of teaching methods and strategies for research training. He is currently the PI of an NIAID–funded project, “Patient and System Factors associated with Successful Treatment of Tuberculosis: A Multilevel Analysis” (R01AI083229). Also, he is currently conducting a trend analysis of TB incidence, prevalence and mortality data in Latin America from 1990 – 2010, evaluating the trajectories to 2015 MDGs, coordinating a cohort study evaluating the use of a conditional cash transfer subsidy for poor patients to improve treatment success in Buenos Aires and on a grant proposal to evaluate cost effectiveness of risk based treatment strategies for TB patients. He is the director of training of the NHLBI funded Southern Cone Center of Excellence for Cardiovascular Health at IECS and the new D43 NIH/Fogarty International Center grant “Promoting Capacity Building in Chronic Diseases Research in South America”
