IECS Health Technology Assessment CONSORTIUM

CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY

The IECS STD Department carries out projects financed by different institutions in the country, the region and the world (such as the WHO, or IDRC of Canada); from the public sector, social security, non-profit organizations and the private sector. That is why we have an active policy to avoid or minimize - and always make explicit - conflicts of interest.

For each new project we start, a work team is defined that declares its potential conflicts of interest. The makeup of the team and the role of each researcher are planned to ensure that no conflict of interest affects the academic rigor of the work to be carried out. This is documented in the “conflicts of interest” section of the reports made.

Case Consortium STD Report with Previous Industry-Funded Report

In the event that a health institution or financier requests a document for a particular technology (NEW PROJECT); and the IECS has worked on a project of that same technology financed by a pharmaceutical laboratory or technology producing company (PREVIOUS PROJECT), the following procedure is carried out: 1) A new research team is formed for the NEW PROJECT whose coordination, methods and materials to be used, and results, are independent of the PREVIOUS PROJECT; 2) The existence (or not) of conflicts of interest of all the authors of the NEW PROJECT is reported; and 3) It is mentioned in the NEW PROJECT that the IECS carried out the PREVIOUS PROJECT, its source of financing, citation and authors.

Case Report (generally Economic Assessments or Budget Impact Analysis) new industry-funded

In the event that a pharmaceutical laboratory or technology production company requests a document for a health technology for which the IECS does not have an ETS report; The IECS carries out, with a different research team, whose coordination, methods and materials to be used, and results, are independent of the team that produces the Report financed by the industry. The existence (or not) of conflicts of interest of all the authors of both projects is reported, in a similar way to the previous case.
