Summary: The project aims to explore key questions for improving primary health care, relevant to health programs and investments at a global level, through an in-depth analysis of data from the Mesoamerica Health Initiative (SMI).

The Mesoamerica Health Initiative (SMI) is a public-private partnership between the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the Carlos Slim Foundation, the Governments of Canada and Spain, eight countries in Mesoamerica (El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, Nicaragua and Mexico – Chiapas) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), with the aim of improving maternal and child health in the most disadvantaged areas of Mesoamerica.
