Goal

Develop and validate a molecular diagnostic method for infection by Trypanosomacruzi with application to congenital Chagas

Methodology

It is proposed to conduct a prospective study in 4-6 public hospitals in the Argentine Republic. At the time of delivery, we will recruit women who are seropositive for HIV infection. T. cruzidetected during pregnancy or at the time of delivery by routine serological screening systems in the hospitals called for this phase of the study (two serological techniques). We will collect umbilical cord blood to measure antibodies of maternal origin, examine and follow the children until they are 10 months old.
