Objective
To determine the effect of calcium supplementation before and during the first half of pregnancy on hypertension and other pregnancy outcomes in women who have developed pre-eclampsia or eclampsia in previous pregnancies.
Nested mHealth Study: The objective of the mHealth study is to determine the effect of SMS text message reminders on appointment attendance compared to call reminders. We will compare loss to follow-up and adherence to study calcium supplements between the two groups.
We hypothesize that SMS reminders will result in fewer missed appointments and fewer missed follow-ups due to better communication between participants and hospital staff.
Location: The research will be carried out in Argentina, South Africa and Zimbabwe and will be coordinated by the Department of Reproductive Health and Research of the World Health Organization.
Type of study
Multicenter randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical investigation.
